BERWICK Kaler will return in his favourite pantomime for his 36th year as York Theatre Royal’s dame next winter.

As is his custom, Dame Berwick announced Old Mother Goose as the choice of show at the last performance of Aladdin And The Twankeys on Saturday night.

He last appeared in Mother Goose in 2003-2004, when its full title was Mother Goose’s Silver Jubilee, to mark his 25th anniversary as dame.

Ten years on, 67-year-old Dame Berwick, said: “Old Mother Goose is my favourite pantomime and I want to play it again while I’m still young enough to play an Old Mother.

As ever, the Sunderland-born actor will write and co-direct the pantomime, as well as play Britain’s longest-running dame.

The show dates are yet to be announced but The Press can confirm tickets will go on sale on Saturday, March 1, when the usual queues are expected to form through the early hours to snap up the best seats.

The first few tickets are available to buy only in person from the St Leonard’s Place box office. General booking will be on 01904 623568 and online at yorktheatreroyal.co.uk

Meanwhile, former Tracy Beaker and Strictly Come Dancing star Dani Harmer is to appear in a York panto for the third time in two years.

She will play Wendy in the Barbican’s Easter panto Peter Pan, having previously starred in the centre’s Wizard of Oz production at Easter 2012 and its Christmas pantomime Cinderella later that year.

Disney’s Art Attack presenter Llyod Warbey is set to fly onto stage as Peter Pan, while comedian Bobby Davro will be playing Smee.
