EVEN amid such disheartening news, there is some good cheer. Marks and Spencer is building a new store in York and with it will come 200 new jobs.
The outlet at Monks Cross is going to be one of the biggest in the region when it opens in April, and that suggests despite enduring such difficult conditions in recent years, consumers at last seem ready to spend again.
That such a flagship store will be situated in York is another sign of confidence in this city and its economy by a globally important brand.
