STUART SPENSLEY makes a strong case for HS2 to bypass Church Fenton (Letters, February 1).
I want the high-speed railway to join the East Coast line at York Station, but there is no need for it to go through Church Fenton.
Avoiding Church Fenton would reduce the compensation costs, because fewer properties would be affected, and these savings could be put towards building the eight extra miles of track necessary to reach York.
I hope Mr Spensley will send me the plans for his alternative route. Maybe this something York and Church Fenton can work on together.
Hugh Bayley, MP for York Central, Holgate Road, York.
