ALEX McMILLAN hit a first-half hat-trick to ensure York Schoolboy under-14s remain unbeaten in the league this season following a 6-0 walloping of Wakefield.

The Minstermites have now won four and drawn one of their five fixtures this term with Zac Lawrence, Max Tweddle and Eddie Greenhill also on target during this latest success.

Man-of-the-match McMillan opened the scoring after a headed flick-on by Dan Davison and Lawrence doubled the hosts’ advantage when he surged through the centre of the Wakefield midfield before hitting a firm, low drive into the net from 20 yards.

With Owen Marshall and David Barber providing strong resistance in midfield and defence respectively, McMillan then made it 3-0 following a fine right-wing passing move and he completed his hat-trick before the interval.

In the second half, Charlie Marshall and Josh Rogerson both went close with decent attempts prior to Tweddle hitting the target with his left foot.

Greenhill went on to complete the scoring after Marcus Haigh’s initial shot had been saved.

York U15s shared the spoils in a 2-2 home draw with Wakefield but they are still in touch with top two Hull and Leeds, who have both played more games.

Jacob Smith and man-of-the-match Luca Colville got their name on the scoresheet with left-back Jamie Spaven also impressing on his return from injury.

The hosts began to get on top in the second half with Colville retaining possession well and Sam Drake driving the team forward with some powerful runs from midfield.

Elliot Fenton and Alex Wilson were also linking up well and due reward came when Smith’s speculative, long-range effort squirmed through the visiting ’keeper’s legs and trickled over the line.

A mix-up at the back, though, gifted Wakefield an equaliser and the Minstermites then trailed with 15 minutes remaining following a free header from a corner.

York refused to surrender and Adam Wilson was denied after sprinting on to a through ball.

Another run led to Wilson being upended just outside the penalty area and, with five minutes left on the clock, Colville rifled the resultant free-kick into the bottom left corner.

Goals by Dominic Jackson (2), Dan Allinson, Joe Crosby and Sam Newsome saw York U12s maintain their undefeated start to 2014 with a 5-1 win over Wakefield.

Jackson netted on 14 and 21 minutes before Wakefield broke away and won a free-kick that found Aaron Burn’s top corner despite the York ’keeper getting his fingertips to the effort.

Fine defending by Lucas Wilson then prevented Wakefield from drawing level before Allinson and Crosby extended the lead and Newsome had the last say with a goal that was the pick of the bunch.

Charlie Ward had an outstanding game for the victors with marksmen Allinson, Jackson and Newsome also shining.
