Workers at a York branch of a supermarket raised £3,500 for animal welfare charity RSPCA.
Dawn May, 52, of Leeman Road, works in Sainsbury’s Blossom Street store and is its fundraising ambassador.
She said customers voted for the charity, with the money raised through various events including, cake stalls, tombolas and colouring competitions.
Angela Hunter, branch manager of the York RSPCA, said it was “an absolutely fantastic amount” to raise, and hoped the money would kick-start the shelter’s upcoming fundraising campaign to refurbish the charity’s animal accommodation.
The financial donation was accompanied by a hamper of pet food for the shelter in Landing Lane.
