I HAVE been following the Lendal Bridge saga with interest. I assume City of York Council has struck a deal with Selby District Council to enable it to use the services of Dick Turpin?

But has it gone far enough with the plans to keep motor vehicles out of the city centre?

Should they not consider barring all motor vehicles from entering the inner sanctum of the city, keeping then outside the city walls?

This could coincide with the 10.30am to 5pm hours of the Lendal Bridge closure.

Of course there would have to be one minor exception – allowing traffic to flow in the Station Road one-way system (end of Rougier Street).

Such a move would, of course, make the Lendal Bridge tolls superfluous and Dick could return to his duties in Selby.
