CELEBRITIES came out to support two charity football matches in the York area.
Emmerdale cast and crew members took part in a game against York Royal Mail employees at the Energise ground in Acomb yesterday afternoon. The event raised about £2,000.
The teams were raising funds for Martin House Children’s Hospice and BBC Radio York's Good Night’s Sleep Appeal, which aims to provide care and support for families who are struggling to look after children with life-limiting illnesses.
Another game was staged yesterday at Tadcaster Albion FC in aid of IDAS, one of the Lord Mayor of York’s charities.
Charity football team Caritas FC took on Celeb FC including members of the cast from The Only Way Is Essex and a member of band East 17.
The Lord Mayor, Coun Julie Gunnell, said it was great to see the two teams support a very worthy cause in IDAS, which was very close to her heart and provided great support to victims of domestic abuse.
She said that as well as the match, there was a funfair with dodgems, waltzers and a trampoline to make it a great family day.
