ALL of York’s nine Roman Catholic parishes will share their priests under a restructuring ordered by the Bishop of Middlesbrough.
The Rt Rev Terence Drainey believes it is the best way to deal with an impending shortage of priests in the city as the existing ones reach retirement age.
St Joseph’s, in Clifton, St Wilfrid’s in central York, St George’s, St Aelred in Tang Hall, English Martyrs in Holgate, Our Lady’s in Acomb, St Paulinus’ in Monkton Road, St Margaret Clitherow in Haxby and St Joseph’s in Green Hammerton, will become a single pastoral area, with all the priests assigned to it working in all of its parishes.
It will be run by a pastoral council with clerical and lay members.
Catholics will be able to learn more about the plans and discuss them at a meeting at St Aelred’s Church on March 25, starting at 7pm.
