AN INQUEST into the death of York student Megan Roberts has today been opened and adjourned.
Megan, 20, studied Fine Arts at York St John University, and went missing following a night out with friends in January.
Police made a number of searches of the River Ouse after CCTV showed she had fallen near the River Ouse, after leaving Popworld in George Hudson Street.
Coroner Donald Coverdale told the inquest Megan was “seen stumbling in Tanners Moat into the cycle racks before continuing towards the river”, and despite “intensive searches”, could not be found.
A body was seen in the Ouse at Acaster Malbis by a member of the public and recovered by the Yorkshire And The Humber Marine Unit on Sunday.
The coroner said it was identified as Megan’s from her dental records by a surgeon from York Hospital.
Yesterday, Megan’s father Jason and mother Jackie said she was a “wonderful, kind and loving daughter”, who would be greatly missed.
Mr Coverdale said a preliminary cause of death had been identified by a pathologist as cardio-respiratory arrest, and adjourned the full inquest until July.
