THE filming in Selby of a new movie starring the BAFTA award winning cast of Horrible Histories has been welcomed.
The makers of Bill – a new comedy film looking at the missing years of William Shakespeare’s life – took over a section of Back Micklegate car park while filming took place at Selby Abbey, only days after filming completed near York Minster.
Coun Steve Shaw-Wright said: “Encouraging the cultural industries does have much wider benefits for the town centre in terms of bringing in substantial numbers of crew and staff to the area, who use the hotels and bed and breakfast establishments in and around town, bringing an immediate boost to the local economy.
“However, the long-term benefits should not be underestimated, as I am sure that when the film is released the town will see a boost in tourists coming to see, Selby Abbey, which is the jewel of Selby’s tourist attractions.”
