WHAT’S in a name? Well it depends who you are, really, and that’s especially the case with rock bands.

Take The Who; only Daltrey and Townshend remain from the early days, while Thin Lizzy still labour on even though there is no one left from the original line up.

Then we have The Beach Boys, who in July will headline at York Racecourse with just co-founder Mike Love leading a group of replacement singers.

But does it matter? Surely the songs are what counts and the surf-rockers possess some of the finest sound-of-summer hits ever written.

And that’s the whole point. The crowd will undoubtedly love it, no matter what diehard purists might think. But wouldn’t it be nice if Brian Wilson could be on stage with them?
