WORK has started on the construction of another platform at Whitby Station, enabling the North Yorkshire Moors Railway to increase the number of steam trains serving the town.
An investment of more than £2 million is being supported by a £1.1 million grant from Round One of the Government’s Coastal Communities Fund, and £850,000 from Network Rail.
From this summer the new platform will allow an increase from three to five in the number of steam trains a day to and from Whitby.
