RETURNING from the Ukulele Sunshine Revival Band practice at the Golden Ball last Tuesday, I encountered a man 20 feet up a street light in Nunnery Lane at 11pm.
He was changing a street advertising banner.
I think he said he had come from Rotherham to do the task, and was employed to display some new banners around the city welcoming the Liberal Democrat Spring Conference to York.
Strangely the banner had an uncharacteristic blue hue about it, but the yellow Lib Dem flying dead parrot was instantly recognisable.
Perhaps our dear leader, Coun James Alexander, could answer two questions:
1. Rotherham! Are there no men of York with a 20 foot ladder?
2. Who paid for these banners costing £30 each – the Lib Dems or the hard-pressed York council tax payer?
A scribbled or doodled response will suffice.
Geoffrey Widdows, East Mount Road, York.
