THE Tour de France will bring huge benefits to the parts of Yorkshire it visits – York among them. But we have always said we’d like to see the entire White Rose county sharing in the legacy.

It is great to see cyclists from across North and East Yorkshire taking the initiative by using the fact the Tour is coming here to promote cycling and walking in the region.

Rupert Douglas of Sustrans and Malcolm Hodgson of the Yorkshire Wolds Way and Cleveland Way have been to both Holland and Belgium. Let’s hope we see an influx of Dutch and Belgian visitors in the wake of the Tour as a result.
