County’s Liberty repeat cry Yorkshire Over-60s reached the Liberty Trophy final for the second year running when they beat Hertfordshire 121-97.

The game, which was played at the neutral venue of Nottingham IBC, saw the White Rose county get off to a flier, leading 30-14 after five ends and then 62-42 five ends later.

Hertfordshire pulled the aggregate score back to within 11 shots at 84-73, but Yorkshire weren’t going to let their lead slip and scored 20 shots over the following three ends to only 13 against to virtually put the game out of reach.

Dave Colebourne’s team, which included York’s Malcolm Harrison were the highest winners, leading from the outset to win 29-14.

John Whiteley’s rink also led all the way and finished 23-12 up. Yorkshire’s only other winning rink came from Ralph Hodgkinson’s team who took their last six ends to triumph by 22-10.

Graham Brooke’s team, which included three York players and Barry Harrison from New Earswick, were involved in a tight game where neither team could pull away and saw the scores standing at 16-15 to Hertfordshire with three ends to play en route to a 19-16 success.

Yorkshire will play Hampshire at Northampton IBC on Sunday, March 23, starting at 1.30pm.
