YORK Knavesmire Harriers were the best performing senior North Yorkshire running club at the National Cross Country Championships at Nottingham’s Wollaton Park.
The Harriers ladies did tremendously well, finishing 36th out of 83 teams.
Nic Vogan was 183rd, Cassie Holmes 227th, Caroline Warrington 269th and Bryony Parkinson 454th, in a field of 708 England’s finest female runners.
Knavesmire’s men’s team also had a stormer, finishing 56th out of 127 teams.
Chris Roberts finished in 446th position, Giles Hawking 592nd, Darren Hendley 642nd, Neil Stabbs 654th, Barry Atkinson 692nd, Tom Ratcliffe 754th and Steven Gow 1347th.
The men’s race was won by Steve Vernon and the ladies event by Gemma Steel.
Olympic triathlon bronze medallist Jonathon Brownlee was ninth in the senior men’s race.
