CHILDREN at a York primary school were given an exciting introduction to their new science topic when five owls paid a visit.
Steve Arabskyj, from the Yorkshire Owl Experience, visited Dringhouses Primary School earlier this week with two barn owls, a snowy owl, an Indian Eagle Owl and an African Spotted Eagle Owl.
Rosie Wallace, the school’s business manager, said the science topic of children in Year Groups 1 and 2 had a nocturnal animal theme.
The youngsters were not only able to look at the owls, but were also able to hold them on a glove and stroke them.
She said: “Pupils also got the opportunity to handle eggs and examine regurgitated food pellets.
“Steve gave a talk about the hunting habits of each owl, how they make nests and many other interesting facts. A highlight of the visit was an impressive flying demonstration by Jack and Ruby, the two barn owls.”
