CONCERNING recent correspondence about the build-up of litter in the River Foss basin being unsightly for visitors to York, sadly, many of these same visitors are responsible for contributing to the litter problem, as well as the British public as a whole.

Until substantial fines are levied against anyone dropping litter or cigarette butts, we will not achieve any improvement in the degree of litter squalor we see around us wherever we go.
