UNTIL Bradley Wiggins was awarded the yellow jersey in 2012, no Englishman had ever won the Tour de France and cycling was the preserve of Lycra-clad hardies.
Then, a couple of months later, Team GB’s bikers swept the medals board at the London Olympics and in just one summer Britain was hooked.
Now it’s Yorkshire’s turn. With 120 days to go until the Grand Départ, the county has yellow fever, But what will we do when the race is run?
Well fear not, that empty feeling will be filled in September with the British Heart Foundation’s Heart of York bike ride.
And organisers are hoping that the new-found love for cycling will produce a bumper turn-out.
The course is not too long, nor is it that onerous, so why not sign up? After all, it’s for a great cause.
