IT was a bookworm’s paradise this week as schools around the city celebrated World Book Day.
At Burton Green primary school York City defender Danny Parslow dropped in to talk about his love of books and read with the children on Thursday.
The school has been working hard to promote reading, and pupils now enjoy regular trips to Clifton Library and fortnightly visits from the mobile library service, and thanks to a grant from the Little Society has bought Learning Pad tablets to help children read everyday.
Teacher Chris O’Malley said the children loved hearing from a footballer, and had enjoyed dressing up as their favourite book characters on Wednesday.
Over at Huntington School, Head of English Alex Quigley dressed as Dracula event when pupils and staff dressed as book characters and gathered in the library to debate the pros and cons of the work of William Shakespeare.
