FOUR Haxby Shotokan Karate Club members are celebrating after being awarded their black belts.
Elizabeth Massey, 11, Oliver Kilvington, 13, 13-year-old Jack Dodds and Thomas Fisher, 15, were awarded their black belts by Alan Campbell, head of JKS England, at a grading course.
A total of 21 Haxby members, ranging from the age of five to 54, passed, making it one of the club’s most successful grading sessions.
Chief instructor Sensei Mike Gude said: “To have four students be awarded their shodan at the same grading is amazing and I am proud of everyone who attempted their grading.”
Haxby are holding a four week beginners course for adults on Mondays and Thursdays, from 8pm to 9pm, starting on April 10. The cost is £10. Phone 07583 249115 for more details.
