WHAT chance did the woman collecting for the Macmillan Cancer charity have last Saturday in St Helen’s Square when she was up against four or five men selling the “Gag Mag”?
This poor woman stood in the same spot while these men walked alongside passers-by and tried their hardest to get cash off them by selling them a joke book that is, to me, offensive, misogynistic and not funny in the slightest.
I understand these men pay 17p for each copy and then try to get at least £3 for each copy.
These men do not appear to need a licence as what they sell is classed as a periodical, while other charity workers or buskers have to have one. I know as I raise funds for the Royal British Legion every year.
Mr S Atkinson, Gillygate, York.
