REGARDING the story headlined “Community action against dog fouling” (The Press, March 4), the suggestion that residents armed with fluorescent spray paints should spray dog mess in order to shame the dog owners is potentially confrontational and dangerous.

The way forward is for the dog-food manufacturers to introduce fluorescent food dye into their products, making the dog waste more readily visible to owners and walkers.

Perhaps by introducing a large variety of different colours it might make it possible to trace the mess back to the owners.
