Buses can never be on time unless you ban all other traffic. They are their own worst enemy, certainly in York, having constantly to give way to other buses.
Just watch the drama unfold in Stonebow, Piccadilly or Merchantgate and you will instantly know why they cannot be relied on.
Even the newly installed “real time” terminals are usually way out. We already know that closing Lendal Bridge makes no real difference to their punctuality.
The operators seem to blame most of their delays on road works. Roadworks are a fact of life and here to stay.
The only thing I can see making a difference is a bus station. It will not alleviate congestion on the roads, but certainly help.
Most cities already have them, why can’t we?
