WHEN young Jak Church went back to school after receiving treatment for horrific burns sustained in a fire aboard his father’s boat, he was dressed not in uniform but in hospital dressings.
Jak says it made him feel as though he was the odd one out.
But last Friday that was far from the case, as hundreds of his school chums decided to join in and wear bandages for the day to raise money for the burns unit and children’s Burns Club at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield.
The hospital looked after Jak so well while he was recovering that he wanted to show his gratitude. Already he has raised more than £1,500 for the unit through a sponsored bike ride around Knavesmire and now his teacher, Clare Smith, reckons another £300 will be on its way thanks to the Dringhouses Primary School Bandage Day.
Saying thank you to hospital staff is one thing but we think Jak really is going the extra mile.
Not only is he a brave lad, he is a caring and compassionate one too.
We salute him.
