A WIDOW has donated lifesaving medical equipment to York Castle Museum in memory of her late husband.

Pat Gardner was widowed in September 2009 when her husband Terry collapsed in the street and died from a heart condition, despite the efforts of paramedics.

Since then, Pat has worked to provide automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for places she and Terry loved to visit, including Eden Camp in Malton, and York Castle Museum, through fundraising matched by the British Heart Foundation.

Warren Bostock, community defibrillation trainer at Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust, said: “We are very grateful to Pat for the fundraising she has organised to support Yorkshire Ambulance Service Charitable Fund and the work of the British Heart Foundation in memory of her husband Terry.

“Our Charitable Fund provides support across Yorkshire to a range of community healthcare initiatives, including the installation of defibrillators, volunteer training and essential kit for our Community First Responders. The money Pat has raised will help to save lives in North Yorkshire and Doncaster for many years to come.”

Pat’s fundraising has included a 46-mile walk from her home in Doncaster to York and climbing Kinder Scout in the Peak District, and she already has future events planned.
