I WISH to thank York Light Opera Company for such a wonderful evening of sheer delight the York Theatre Royal with its latest musical production, Hot Mikado.
I visited the show on March 6 with my sister and we laughed and tapped our feel all evening long.
For any Gilbert & Sullivan musical fans, may I encourage them to go along and see the show if they haven’t already booked a ticket; it runs until March 15. It is a Gilbert & Sullivan classic, presented as an hilarious romp through Titipu, Japan circa 1940 where ancient East meets 20th century West with an intoxicating mix of jazz, blues, swing and gospel styles to all the original songs.
It is a sheer delight, the music, the singing, the colours the wonderful choreographed dance routines embracing all the amazing cast, the dancers, the chorus all set against a colourful beautifully designed street scene of the Titipu Town Band.
For all the hours and hours, indeed weeks of planning, commitment and rehearsal time we your audiences owe our heartfelt thanks.
I do hope that even the purists among Gilbert & Sullivan fans will have a lovely evening.
Brenda Allison, Aldwark, York.
