I HAVE read with interest the many letters about the trial closure of Lendal Bridge.

Obviously there are many opinions on this and now is the time for the council to make an unbiased decision on the result of the trial.

In order to assist them and make a fair decisian on the wishes of the Citizens of York and people who use the bridge such as trades people, visitors and the retailers and the very many people they employ, could I ask that The Press goes back through the letters it has received from contributors to throughout the six months of the trial, so that it can count all the letters including (letters from visitors who have complained of fines should count) in favour of the bridge being open with unrestricted use as it was before the trial; and all the letters in favour of the bridge being closed during the day as in the trial.

Then publish the result.

I think this would be of great service to the council in arriving at their decision. Better than employing at our expense experts who have little or no interest in York.

The number of votes for and against would make the democratic decision for us all to see and which I am sure the City of York councilors would accept.
