TERRY TEMPLE was one leg away from inflicting the first defeat on Yorkshire’s Brian Dawson in the fourth Streamline Taxis York Open Darts Championships.
The Whitwell-on-the-Hill player, a PDC pro, opened up a 4-0 lead in the best-of-nine legs final only to see county foe Dawson take all five remaining legs to win his third ranking stage, sponsored by Red Dragon Darts.
Temple (180 for 14-18-16-17) defeated fellow pro tour player Matt Padgett (180 for 16-17) 4-2 in the semi-finals, while Dawson was a 4-1 victor over York’s Mark Hartley.
The next stage is on Saturday, March 22 at Huntington WMC.
