REGARDING the letter from Mr S Atkinson on the subject of the Gag Mag sellers and the woman with her charity collection in competition with them in St Helen’s Square, I believe I am the collector with whom Mr Atkinson spoke.
I fully agree that it is somewhat unfair that these street sellers can approach people to sell their wares for profit, and have no licence, but charity collectors, who are there for the benefit of people, need a licence and cannot approach prospective donors .
Your comments were much appreciated, but I would just like to point out that I was not collecting for Macmillan but for Marie Curie Cancer Care, another very worthy cause.
