PEOPLE in York are being asked to think before they smoke in front of their children.
To mark No Smoking Day, City of York Council has said it supports the amendment made to the Children and Families Bill in the House of Lords last month giving the Health Secretary the power to bring in the regulations of making it an offence to smoke in cars where children are present.
Dr Paul Edmondson-Jones, director of health and wellbeing at City of York Council said: “Children are more vulnerable to the dangers of second-hand smoke compared to adults due to their faster breathing and less developed immune systems.”
Meanwhile, NHS Vale of York’s Clinical Commissioning Group has also called on people to quit.
Dr Mark Hayes said: “I encourage smokers in the Vale of York to ditch the nicotine habit, especially if they are to have an operation.”
