I WAS born in a village called Rufforth, married in Rufforth, then my husband and I moved to Acomb where we lived for the next 40 years.

Then, on retirement, we moved to Bridlington, hoping the North Sea air would be good for our health.

Since coming here I have kept the National Health Service very busy. We all say we do not know what we would do without the NHS.

But it is the people who work for the NHS that I thank, from receptionists at the medical centres, our general practitioners, nurses and doctors at the hospitals, also cleaners and cooks.

I have received this help many, many times.

I would not have been here today, if it had not been for two of the GPs in the Acomb Road Surgery.

In 1967 I was nine weeks pregnant, when it was discovered I was having an ectopic pregnancy.

I was rushed to hospital where I had a blood transfusion - thank you so much to the wonderful people who donate blood.

My operation was very scary for all concerned. I was told I was a very lucky person, because in 1967 it was a rare thing to happen.

So, from my husband and myself, I would like to say a big thank-you and a happy and healthy new year to you all, for the help I have received for all the operations and illness in my life.

I am a very strong-minded person with a good sense of humour.

But without the dedicated doctors and nurses and my Christian faith I would not be here today. God bless you all.
