YORK film-maker and computer graphics animator Christopher David was involved in a presentation about flood defences to MPs in the House of Commons.
Mr David, of Flash Frame Productions, has been creating computer graphics and engineering animations for Droitwich company UK Flood Barriers for more than five years.
He said politicians, insurance companies and government leaders were recognising the need for real engineering solutions to tackle flooding.
"The good news is that such solutions exist, and they're much more cost-effective than the alternative - which is an expensive clear-up operation," he said.
He said MPs were told about a self-rising flood barrier, a new design of sea wall for coastal defence and a unit called the 'ARK', which was designed to help preserve agricultural machinery, livestock and their foodstuffs during long-term flooding.
The event, called "Britain Prepared – A flood resilient society", was hosted by MP Sir Peter Luff.
