YORK IBC’s slim chances of taking the North East Ladies League title disappeared when they were beaten 81-74 by a virtual Selby first team.

The only mustered four points to leave themselves nine shy of leaders Hornsea with one game to play.

Irene Paylor’s away team pulled off a magnificent result, signalling their intentions when they picked up a seven on the first end.

They led 12-0 before the home side got on the board with a three on the fifth end. Paylor’s team finished with a flourish, scoring 16 shots over the last five ends to win 37-9.

Pat Bracken’s team struggled throughout and lost 31-9.

At home, Pat Potter’s side were involved in a tight game. Level at 15-15 with three to play, they scored a three, then a single, to go into the last with a four-shot cushion. The game finished 19-18.

Barbara Dawson’s side led 7-4 after eight ends but could only win two more and lost 23-9.

New Earswick won two rinks against North Cave but were disappointed to lose their last game of the season when they went down 80-69.
