THE A64 near Tadcaster has suffered its third accident in one day.

Four cars were involved in a collision near the junction with the A659 at 4.25pm, just ten minutes after the dual carriageway had finally been re-opened following a lunchtime accident involving a bin lorry and a tractor and trailer.

North Yorkshire Police said the eastbound outside lane was blocked by the four car crash but no one was injured and the road re-opened fully by 4.50pm.

Earlier, a man inside the bin lorry cab who suffered serious leg injuries was cut free by firefighters and was then airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Two other patients from the lorry were checked at the scene and did not need to go to hospital

The trailer overturned in the crash, which happened at 11.50am opposite John Smith’s Brewery.

The eastbound carriageway was closed after the accident for several hours.

This morning, two cars and a van were involved in a crash on the A64 at Bilbrough Top at just after 8.10am, leaving the westbound carriageway blocked.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the crash  involved three vehicles - a Ford Transit van, a Volkswagen Passat and a Renault Megane - and one person was cut out of their car, but nobody was seriously injured.
