I LIKE the new layout of the letters column, but I wonder when drivers will come to like the new era of the carfree city centre.
Many tourists walk from the station bus parking area, or from the bus park in Clarence Street, so why can’t motorists do the same.
They could park their pollution cans in Nunnery Lane car park and York is just round the corner. I have walked into York from Holgate Road for the past 15 years, and people (who I owe a drink to), say I look 12 years younger than the big 70.
It would also be a great help to the emergency services, as I have often seen them trying to make a third central lane and squeeze between the solid block of traffic on Lendal Bridge. I can tell you that is a very long and difficult job.
So let us all enjoy the new era of peace and quietness that has come to the area.
Allan Denney, Holgate Road, York.
