I WROTE to City of York Council on August 9 for information regarding the evaluation of the Lendal Bridge traffic trial, focusing on how ‘success’ was to be measured and, importantly, who will be responsible for the integrity of the evaluation.
Despite having been reassured on two occasions that a response “would be sorted out”, I am still waiting.
It would be of interest to many readers of The Press, particularly those not on the internet, if the council would publish a synopsis of the structure of the evaluation, to clarify these issues prior to a decision being made.
Details of the initial brief produced by the council to fully evaluate the impact of closure would be useful, as would the definition of ‘success’ on closure effects; plus a summary of objective data sought and procedures for analyses, particularly for subjective data.
For decision-making of this magnitude, with significant long-term implications for impact on York and its inhabitants, a balanced judgement must be ensured by being based on an evaluation which is not only valid and reliable, but seen to be so.
Anything other would reflect disastrously on the reputation of the administrators of York.
