I HAVE no doubt that over the years the residents of Haxby, who use the alleyway running from the top end of Elden Grove to North Lane, have been appalled by the dreadful state of the alleyway.

The pathway is never properly swept and is covered in weeds, with cigarette butts lying everywhere, and branches hanging in every direction.

But now, thanks to the four people who set out to clean the area, the alleyway is now a revelation. All work was done voluntarily, so as an Elden Grove resident, along with others, our deepest thanks to Angela and John Piercy and Tony and Shirley, but no thanks to the City of York council whose job it is to maintain these alleyways.
