TEACHERS and students from Archbishop Holgate’s CE Academy will take 250 football shirts to Cape Town in South Africa next month.
The shirts - donated by York City FC sponsors Benenden Health - will go to community projects in the township of Khayelitsha, including the charity Fikelela which works with those infected by HIV and AIDS, and The Warehouse, which works with homeless and destitute people.
The school has run visits to Cape Town for ten years. Richard Nihill, RE Teacher and Lay Chaplain at the school, said the visits had an educational element, a community service element, and engagement with local people.
Amy Goodman, media relations executive at Benenden Health, said: “I’ll be waving the students off at the station in a few weeks’ time and wish them every possible success.”
