CONEYSTHORPE ‘A’ remain hot title favourites in the first division of the York and District Table Tennis League following an 8-2 triumph over their ‘B’ team.
Martin Lowe was again unbeaten, including a comprehensive victory over James Rule, the only player to defeat Lowe this season.
Rule gained some consolation by picking up an excellent win against Ashley Hodgson.
York RI ‘A’ look destined to finish in second place after dropping crucial points in a 7-3 defeat of York RI ‘B’, following the late withdrawal of Filip Wojtkowiak.
Holgate ‘A’ gained a solid 7-3 victory against Bootham ‘A’ for whom Jo Suchecki pulled off a superb win against Holgate’s number one player, Aidan Ranftler.
At the foot of the table, York RI ‘C’ secured a welcome 7-3 victory against University ‘A’, despite an unbeaten performance from Agoston Hoffman for the students.
In division two, maximums from Mick Kenyon and Martin Hood helped leaders Holgate ‘B’ to thrash York RI ‘D’ 9-1.
Second-placed Shepherds ‘A’ whitewashed Tramways who are getting dragged into a relegation battle with Holgate ‘C’.
Nigel Reeson and Dave Quinlan helped Bootham ‘D’ to a 9-1 victory over Shepherds ‘D’, although the result does not reflect the close nature of many of the sets.
Three wins from Rachel Greener were enough to secure a tough 6-4 win for Bootham ‘C’ against rivals Bootham ‘B’.
Shepherds ‘B’ beat Holgate ‘C’ 6-4 thanks to Ian Williams. Rob Farmery played well to pick up two important points for the losers.
Sam Imbo inspired an understrength York RI ‘D’ to an excellent performance against Shepherds ‘C’, Lewis McCarthy’s double holding the key to a 6-4 victory for the Railwaymen.
In division three, Jan Suchecki pushed unbeaten Alan Balmforth to the limit but could not prevent his Bootham ‘E’ team falling to a 7-3 defeat to Thornton-le-Clay.
David Dunn was the star for York RI ‘F’ in an 8-2 victory over Bootham ‘F’, while and BT ‘B’ pulled away from the relegation zone after delivering a 10-0 whitewash to a depleted Shepherds ‘E’.
Dan Hickey excelled in a comfortable 8-2 win by Holgate ‘D’ over York RI ‘G’.
Burnholme ‘B’ remain top of division four after impressive trebles from Terry Ruane and Chris Mc- Cluskie underpinned an 8-2 hammering of close rivals York RI ‘H’.
Student Scott Burton was key in a 6-4 victory for University ‘C’ against bottom-placed York RI ‘I’.
The out-and-out star of the show for the RI ‘J’ line-up was Mickey Arnold in a surprise 6-4 win over Bootham ‘G’.
