HEWORTH ARLC Under-16s travelled to East Leeds with only 11 men but played their hearts out in a 42-4 Yorkshire Junior League premier division defeat.

The Villagers trailed only 16-4 at half-time and for 15 minutes were another man down. Unsurprisingly they tired in the second half.

New players are sought. The team train on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6.15pm to 7.30pm at Elm Park Way. If interested, phone Kenny Embleton on 07796 876355.

York Acorn U16s continued their good start to division four with a 42-4 win over Dearne Valley, while York Acorn U14s ran up the points against a struggling Guiseley.

Ritesh Gurung scored from distance and had another ruled out as New Earswick U12s beat Queensbury 14-0 in a wind-affected game.

Lewis Young and Kai Smith also crossed, Sam Briggs adding a goal.

New boy Isaac Elmer impressed.

Cameron Pringle, Ben Kennedy, Tallus Brownlee, Umat Aktas Harvey Mallon and Sam Cooper had great debuts as Heworth U12s began their season with a fantastic 30-4 victory over Underbank.

• HEWORTH ARLC Under-9s overcame Hunslet Warriors in a curtainraiser to the Championship derby between Hunslet Hawks and York City Knights.

Sam Hunt, Kian Ogilvie, Lucas Burden and Keane Brough all made telling contributions, while the magic moment was created by a Keane Brough pass which sent Lucas Burden racing home. Try scorers were Ogilvie (2), Burden (2), Hunt, Brough and Jack Taylor. Oliver Lambert had his best game and Harry Brown an impressive debut.

Heworth U8s tied with Hunslet Warriors at the same venue.

Heworth tries came from Harvey Monks and parents’ man of the match Ellis Cochrane. Thomas Hardy, Johnathon Hartley and Charlie Cockerill also shone.

• YORK Acorn ARLC Under-10s’ superb win over Thornhill was marred by a terrible injury to Oliver Taylor.

The youngster broke a femur in an accidental clash and needed a stay in hospital.

James Kilgar and Joe Shakespear were the men of the match in Sherburn Bears U9s’ entertaining game against Guiseley.

Jake Wilkinson and Jack Todd also attacked well, while top tackler Neave Romans, George Beal and Harry Calvert impressed in defence.
