THE University of York’s ‘Astrocampus’ is set to officially open today with a day of celebrations.
The day was due to start with a chance for 400 schoolchildren to take part in workshops and visit the inflatable planetarium, and to continue in the evening with a special exhibition and talk, and tours of the Astrocampus, which houses the university’s telescopes – including solar and radio telescopes – in two purpose-built observatories.
Monthly observing evenings will run from the end of March to September, and weekly observing evenings will start in October and continue over the winter months.
