A YORK church is to celebrate its 50th anniversary this coming weekend.

Christ Church Heworth has been at its Stockton Lane home for half a century, and will mark the occasion on Saturday, March 22 and Sunday, March 23.

There will be a free cafe running from 10am-4pm on the Saturday, along with displays of a 50-year timeline with photos and memories of the church’s past, a specially commissioned mosaic which church members helped make to permanently mark the anniversary, and a car treasure hunt running all day.

On the Sunday, around 200 people are set to join the 10.30am service with many clergy and church supporters from the last 50 years, including Christ Church’s first ever priest who will officially unveil the mosaic with current vicar the Rev Paul Deo.
