I HAVE been intrigued by the letters from angry visitors vowing that they will never set foot in York again because of fines levied for crossing Lendal Bridge.
It reminds me of the occasion when, being new to the traffic systems of Norwich, I drove into an area where I should not have been.
I was caught on camera and fined £30 for my misdemeanour. I was cross, naturally, but realised that ignorance is no defence in law and paid up.
Does that mean I deprive myself of ever going to the lovely city of Norwich?
Of course not, I have been back many times. I just make sure I never take my car into the city centre again. Isn’t that what most people would do?
