YOUR prolific correspondent Phillip Roe seems to have had many strings to his bow in his time. It brings to mind the old adage: Jack of all trades, and master of none!
While I am sure that his list of York’s lost industries in his letter printed on March 11 was not meant to be comprehensive, he has omitted the glassworks (latterly Redfern) off Fishergate.
There was a history of glass-production at that location going back some centuries, as it utilised sand dredged from the river which of course was tidal up until the opening of the lock at Naburn.
