THE line-up for the Apollo Festival has been announced, with organisers promising four stages of acts helping to raise money for charity causes.

This is the second year the festival has been held, and it will work this year to support the Smiley Riley Fund, which helps pay living and travel costs for parents and carers whose children are undergoing chemotherapy.

Organisers this week announced the headline act of the main stage will be Sheffield rockers Reverend and the Makers – who have previously played Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds festivals, as well as supporting global acts such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

York plumber Stuart Kelly, who started the festival last year, said: “Having already sold out dates on their tour so far this year it is big news that they will help Apollo Festival close the show in style.

“We are also delighted to say that joining them on this year’s main stage line up is singer/songwriter and the former Bluetones frontman Mark Morriss, ex-Seahorses frontman Chris Helme and York’s popular party band The Supermodels.”

Also performing at the festival is York busker Beth McCarthy, who is currently taking part in this year’s BBC One show The Voice, former Inspiral Carpets member Tom Hingley, and BBC Radio 2 favourite Boss Caine.

The festival also includes a dance stage, live performances from a covers band, a full fun fair, children’s activities, open-air theatres and other family events.

Stuart said: “We have something for everyone and anyone. “Whether you’re here for the music or not, we believe Apollo will have it.”

The festival takes place at York Sports Club in Shipton Road on Saturday, June 21.

Tickets cost £12 for adults, £1 for under-12s, and are available from Capricorn beauty therapists in Tang Hall, 1331 in York, York Sports Club in Shipton Road, The Ainsty pub in Boroughbridge Road, and online at apollofestival.co.uk
