Does the thought of house-hunting make you want to curl up in a corner because of the thought of dealing with a estate agents who, many say, are part of one of the most hated professions? If so, perhaps you need to hear from local house hunters, Betty and Brian Thornton, who have taken a very different view of estate agents following their experience in using Reeds Rains.
Says Betty: “The home buying process for us was excellent and the service we were given was exceptional. We dealt with a range of staff at Reeds Rains who all knew exactly where we were in the process. We felt happy and secure as they maintained regular contact with us all the way through. We didn’t face any difficulties as Reeds Rains took care of everything. We cannot fault them. We are new to the home buying process and were amazed to sell in two weeks.
Thank you John Wroot and the team In York for all your help and I hope John likes the cardigan I knitted for his new born.”
Practical house buying suggestions
Brian and Betty have the following helpful suggestions for those looking to buy a house:
1. Make sure you choose someone who is enthusiastic about selling your house. Reeds Rains were passionate with our house which really helped.
2. Get to know the person you are going to be dealing with on a regular basis. You want to make sure you can get on with them. We enjoyed meeting the Reeds Rains team and we still pop in and see them when we are in town.
3. Look at house price indices to get an idea of market trends.
4. Organise all your house related documents, including guarantees for work done on the house such as gas certificates and electrical certifications, to help when selling your own home. You will also need to prove your identity on occasions when dealing with your agent so your passport and utility bills are always good to have available when needed.
5. Get your house ready for viewings. No clutter anywhere. Tidy all the rooms and don’t forget, for example, to put away the dishes from the kitchen.
6. Concentrate on first impressions. Painting the door and window frames makes the house welcoming and should give an instant good impression to potential buyers.
