I AM obliged to Mark Cousins (Letters, March 14) for correcting my error that the Roman Bridge was not exactly on the site of Ouse Bridge but further upstream.
I would be further grateful if Mr Cousins could confirm that archeologists did not find any stone tablets with Latin script advising the crossing would be closed to private carts and chariots at certain times of the day.
Knowing how organised and efficient the Romans were, we can be sure that if they did have restrictions their signs would have been up to the job and therefore stand a good chance of survival.
