THE Government has set out plans which could see a "super-council", including York, established.
If approved, the West Yorkshire Combined Authority will be able to co-ordinate as one body to attract greater investment in transport infrastructure and regeneration, with City of York Council being part of the partnership.
Communities and Local Government Minister Brandon Lewis told the House of Commons that a combined authority will enable the councils concerned to give "full effect to their ambitions for joint working", although they had to meet several conditions to receive the Government's go-ahead on the joint ventures.
