DO YOU believe in love at first sight? The kind of love that strikes like a lightning bolt, makes your heart beat a little faster and has you reaching out in desire…
Well, I do…Or at least I do when it comes to the property market.
Because every now and then you come across a house that just tugs at the heart strings and has you coming over all wide-eyed and soppy.
And so it was when we first set eyes on the quite beautiful home that is The Sycamores, in Middlethorpe.
It helped that here was a house dressed in spring-time finery, with the brochure pictures showing blue skies and streaming sunshine.
But we believe this is a home for all seasons, a spacious, light and bright property with lots of room to stretch around in and immaculately presented throughout.
We might as well start with the wow factor highlight, the part of the house that confirmed our passion.
It is a brilliant (in all senses of the word) orangery which runs some 26ft along the back of the house with a stone flagged floor underfoot and a windowed canopy overhead – and with windows and French doors running around three sides letting in lots of lovely light.
It makes for a super spot in which to sit and watch spring unfold and the extensive garden grow…and to entertain friends and family on the warm days to come.
The orangery, however, is just one of the many highlights of this very individual, charming and character-filled home.
These include a very attractive kitchen with an Aga set into an exposed brick recess and a separate integrated cooker and hob and a central preparation island. Off the kitchen, down a couple of steps, you find a “sunken” dining area which has patio doors leading to the orangery.
That step down arrangement also applies to the lounge, another super, bright and airy room with feature brick fireplace housing a multi-fuel stove.
This is a cleverly designed home, too… off the hallway there are two bedrooms which have a “Jack and Jill” en-suite shower room arrangement.
The master bedroom has its own en-suite bathroom and also a dressing room – and this is another light room thanks to two big bay windows.
Completing the airy accommodation is a playroom or guest annexe with an en-suite shower room. All of these rooms are quite beautifully and very tastefully presented.
There’s a lot to admire outside, too, as the house is wrapped up in large gardens with a few “surprise” spots. There is a private driveway with off-street parking and a gravelled area leading to a lawn – running down to an expansive rear garden with further lawned and patio areas.
As for location, Middlethorpe is a somewhat desirable spot a little south of the village of Bishopthorpe and providing easy access to York city centre and commuting routes including the A64.
A beautiful house with delightful gardens in a super spot. No wonder we’ve fallen in love.
